Fairfield Civic Center Library

This library is great! Such an amazing collection of books, music, and movies. Printing and computer sections are available, and programs to join if interested. There's also a beautiful pond and water fountain behind the building, surrounded by trees and benches to sit on and enjoy the peaceful scenery. You can relax and read a book, have a picnic, ride your bike, etc. Definitely one of my happy places lately!😊

I checked Google and it says the library opens at 9am. I went to return books at 9:50am and the library was closed. For some unknown reason they were supposedly not opening until 10am today. There were many people from the public waiting outside. Women and fathers with their kids turned around and left. What a travesty. It is a great library inside. But it seems like the hours of operation are spotty.

I must commend the staff there, who have always been friendly and approachable the times that I've been there. They are very patient, and courteous, even when dealing with visitors who are challenged mentally or physically. I encountered a gentleman, Tim, who was very kind and even escorted me to the shelves to point out a section (autobiographies) that I was looking for. The range of services at the library is amazing. They offer: -Storytimes(weekly) for the kiddies or the whole family -Materials such as CDs, DVDs, newspapers, mags, etc. They even allow you to check out musical instruments, board games, and video games!! -Computers, Wi-Fi, and scanning. All these services are free, but if you want to print out documents, etc., color printing is 50c a page while B&W printing is 10c a page. -Auto Renewal !! All library items check out for 21 days but the library auto renews checked out items 3 days before the due date, and your loan is extended 21 days. I believe auto renewal is done 3 times on all loans, before you have to return the item(s). If auto renewal is unsuccessful, due to a prior hold, for example, on your loan, the item will retain the original due date. Honorable mention: The library Diane impose late charges on materials. If items are not returned within 14 days of due date, borrowing privileges will be suspended. If items are more than 14 days overdue, customers will be charged for the cost of the item. The parking lot has coverage due to the solar-powered panels. Short walk from the the parking area. There is a security officer straight ahead after you walk in. To your right as you pass through the sliding doors, there is a small bookstore,restrooms, and the children's library area with rooms for studying. As you look left, it is the adult side, classroom further back, immediate left is where you pick up your holds to check out, to your right is the help desk, and there are computers available to use. The library staff are friendly and helpful. There are excellent links available on the Solano Library site for their members. You can place hold on books, instruments, games, and movies. Solano County Library Fairfield has been an awesome establishment for me to get some quiet time and needed intellectual stimulation. I had the chance here to donate my time (for close to 6 months) to volunteer to those who needed help with literacy skills as an adult literacy tutor. The staff here have always been accommodating. My only pet peeve about this location was the cleanliness of the bathrooms as the homeless population (as well as potentially regular patrons) in the area tended to use it without regard to cleaning up after themselves. All in all, this is a great place to get educated on local events that can contribute to self-enlightenment and self-sufficiency.
